ENTERPRISE DNA PRESENTS

Hello folks,

AI made big news at the Superbowl. Prompting techniques now include tree-of-thought. Companies are using AI to spy on their employees.

Proud to say that we’ve partnered with Pinecone again. We may even do a Pinecone-RAG course.

In this issue:

  • 🀝 In Partnership: Pinecone, level up AI knowledge with blazing-fast, low-cost RAG

🀝 IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PINECONE

What you need for better GenAI applications

Learn more from Pinecone Research on how Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) using Pinecone serverless increases relevant answers from GPT-4 by 50%.

- The larger the search data, the more β€œfaithful” the results.

- RAG with massive on-demand data outperforms GPT-4 (without RAG) by 50%, even with the data it was explicitly trained on.

- RAG, with a lot of data, ensures state of the art performance no matter the LLM you choose, encouraging the use of different LLMs (e.g., open-source or private LLMs).

🀿 DEEP DIVE

AI takes the lead at the Superbowl

The Superbowl made AI mainstream and brought it to the present.

From helping the visually impaired take selfies, to generating guacamole recipes, to even creating a Beatles song, AI is infiltrating our daily lives in ways we didn't think possible.

The Super Bowl ads this year highlighted just how far we've come, and also poked fun at the concept of AI itself.

Here are a few of the highlights:

  • Microsoft Copilot - Microsoft showed off its AI companion to the every day worker

  • Gift Mode - Etsy showed off its newest AI tool, designed to help people find gifts for their spouses and friends

  • HeGetsUS - a Jesus Super bowl ad showing (what I think is) AI-generated imagery, but there’s some controversy around that

  • Pixel 8 - Google shows off its AI tech to help vision-impaired people take photos and use their phone (hits the feels)

  • Body Armor - I loved this one - it was all about fake AI art and how that’s equivalent to artificial sweeteners in sports drink

All of this proves that Gen AI is going mainstream.

πŸ“• LEARN SOMETHING

Prompting techniques

English is the newest programming language with the explosion of LLMs. So, being able to prompt well is key.

Here are the different ways to prompt:

Yao et al. (2023)

1/ Input-Output

  • Explanation: Directly asking the AI to perform a specific task or answer a question. Can be zero-shot (no examples) or few-shot (with examples)

  • Example: Convert the following temperatures from Celsius to Fahrenheit: 0Β°C, 100Β°C.

2/ Chain-of-Thought

  • Explanation: Encourages the model to break down the problem into intermediate steps before arriving at the final answer

  • Example: Explain how to calculate the area of a circle with a radius of 5 units and then do it

3/ Self-Consistency

  • Explanation: Generating multiple chain-of-thought solutions to the same problem and then selecting the most consistent answer across these solutions

  • Example: What is 15% of 50? Do it in three separate ways.

4/ Tree-of-Thought

  • Explanation: Generates multiple branching paths of reasoning for a given problem, exploring different possible solutions or interpretations before converging on a final answer.

  • Example: Consider different ways to solve 2x + 3 = 11, with different intermediate paths

Both Google's Gemini and Microsoft's Copilot chatbots have been fabricating stats for Super Bowl 2024, spinning tall tales about games that haven't taken place yet.

Why should I care?

  • If chatbots are pulling Super Bowl stats out of thin air, don't completely trust AI-generated info

  • Treat future-tech like GenAI as tools, not gospel - they're still prone to errors

Goody-2, a satirical AI model, considers every query offensive and dangerous, essentially abstaining from discussing any topic as a way to mock overcautious AI systems.

Why should I care?

  • This parody of AI highlights the struggle of balancing responsibility and usefulness in AI
