Google Expands NotebookLM Plus to Individual Users Amid Rising Interest

Intelligence: Google has launched NotebookLM Plus for individual users within its Google One AI Premium plan, responding to high consumer interest after an initial rollout for enterprises.

• The paid version of the AI note-taking tool was first made available to businesses in Google Cloud and Google Workspace two months before its rollout to individual consumers.

• Subscribers now have access to up to 500 notebooks, 300 sources per notebook, and increased usage limits: 500 chat queries and 20 audio generations daily, five times more than the free version.

• The Google One AI Premium plan costs $20 per month, with a 50% discount for U.S. students over 18, bringing the price to $9.99 monthly, as Google Labs director Kelly Schaefer noted significant demand, particularly from students.

• This feature, launched in September 2023, allows users to create audio conversations from uploaded content and has inspired similar offerings from other companies.

• Plans are underway to introduce support for multiple languages in Audio Overviews and a dedicated mobile app for NotebookLM, aiming for a seamless user experience across platforms.

• Sonar is built on Llama 3.3 70B, designed to deliver high-quality answers quickly and accurately.

• Extensive A/B testing indicates Sonar outperforms models like GPT-4o mini and Claude 3.5 Haiku, while closely matching or exceeding the abilities of top-tier models such as GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet.

• Sonar operates at a speed of 1200 tokens per second, nearly 10 times faster than comparable models like Gemini 2.0 Flash, allowing for rapid answer generation.
