Apple's Gradual Rollout of AI Suite 'Apple Intelligence' on Compatible iPhones
Intelligence: Apple's suite of artificial intelligence-powered tools, Apple Intelligence, is expected to be gradually released on compatible iPhones from October 2021 to January 2022.
Apple Intelligence features will be slowly introduced with iOS 18 updates, starting with the ability to type to Siri in October.
The suite will be mainly available on iPhone 16, 16 Plus, and 16 Pro due to the new A18 chip, although iPhone 15 Pro's A17 processor also makes it compatible.
Notable features include Genmoji, which lets users generate new emojis using text prompts, and Image Playground, an image generator.
Major updates to Siri are anticipated, including the ability to contextualize requests based on what's currently on-screen.
Significance: This shows the challenge tech companies face in marketing future AI capabilities while delivering on those promises. Apple's rollout of its AI features could set the standard for how others introduce new AI technologies, impacting both consumers and the industry.

Apple's Rumored Launch of a Smart Home Display in the Coming Year
Intelligence: Apple is reportedly planning to release a smart home display that runs on a new operating system, homeOS, in the next year.
The smart display is expected to run Apple apps such as Calendar, Notes, and Home.
Prototypes of the display have been tested with wall-mounting capabilities.
The device will support Apple Intelligence, a feature currently not present in Apple's HomePods.
Rumored features include a square shape and the ability for users to control it using hand gestures from a distance.
The smart display is expected to be more practical and possibly less expensive than using an iPad as a dedicated smart home controller.
Significance: If launched, this smart home display would mark Apple's renewed effort to make a significant impact in the smart home market. This development could impact consumer habits and expectations regarding home automation and AI integration.
