Meta and Ray-Ban Expand Smart Glasses Collection and Introduce Meta AI Updates

Intelligence: Meta, in partnership with Ray-Ban, has announced an expansion of their smart glasses collection and the introduction of new features, including updates to Meta AI.

• Meta and Ray-Ban are introducing new styles to their smart glasses collection, with designs to suit a variety of face shapes, which have been selling out quickly.

• The glasses are equipped with Meta AI, allowing users to ask their glasses about what they're seeing and receive relevant information with new features such as video calling capabilities via WhatsApp and Messenger.

• The companies have also announced a limited-edition Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in an exclusive Scuderia Ferrari colorway for Miami 2024.

Significance:  The partnership between Meta and Ray-Ban highlights the potential for integrating AI into everyday apparel, transforming how we interact with technology daily.

Microsoft's Phi-3 Small Language Models Revolutionize AI Accessibility

Intelligence: Microsoft Research has developed a new training approach that results in more capable small language models, making AI more accessible.

• Microsoft Research expert Ronen Eldan conceptualized the idea of training AI models using only words a 4-year-old could understand, leading to innovative solutions.

• Microsoft announced the Phi-3 family of open models, the most potent and cost-effective SLMs available. The first model, Phi-3-mini, outperforms models twice its size, which will be available on the Microsoft Azure AI Model Catalog, Hugging Face, Ollama, and as an NVIDIA NIM microservice.

Significance: This development offers a more accessible and cost-effective alternative to LLMs, particularly for organizations with limited resources.
