Developers Gain Access to Gemini 1.5 Pro's Expanded Context Window and Code Execution, Plus Gemma 2's Debut

Intelligence: Google AI Studio is giving developers access to a 2-million token context window in Gemini 1.5 Pro, code execution capabilities in the Gemini API, and the newly introduced Gemma 2 model.

• Google AI Studio has expanded the context window for Gemini 1.5 Pro to 2 million tokens, allowing developers to handle larger inputs at reduced cost through context caching.

• Gemini 1.5 Pro and 1.5 Flash now have code execution capabilities, enabling the models to generate and execute Python code to improve accuracy in math or data reasoning problems.

• The newly introduced model, Gemma 2, is now available in Google AI Studio, aiming to make AI more accessible to developers.

• Gemini 1.5 Flash, built for speed and affordability, is being used in production by several companies, such as Envision, Plural, Zapier, and Dot, for various applications.

Meta's New Approach to Labeling AI-Generated and Manipulated Media

Intelligence: Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is revising its policies to include more transparent labeling of AI-generated and manipulated content across its platforms.

• In response to feedback from the Oversight Board and public opinion surveys, Meta will add "AI info" labels to any content that displays industry-standard AI image indicators or is self-disclosed as AI-generated.

• Meta's old policy, written in 2020, only covered AI-manipulated videos, but the new policy will include a wider range of AI-generated media types, such as audio and images.

• The Oversight Board recommended a less restrictive approach to manipulated media, arguing that the removal of such content could risk limiting freedom of speech.
