MasterClass Expands with On-Demand AI Mentorship from Celebrity Instructors

Intelligence: MasterClass has launched a new service called On Call, allowing users to interact with AI representations of famous instructors, aimed at offering personalized mentorship.

• MasterClass introduced a web and iOS app providing users with AI versions of notable instructors for real-time interaction.

• Current AI personalities include former FBI hostage negotiator Chris Voss and neuroscientist Dr. Matt Walker, with plans for more, including Gordon Ramsay and Mark Cuban.

• CEO David Rogier emphasized that the AI is not a generic chatbot, it is trained on proprietary data from the experts, including unpublished notes and personal insights.

• MasterClass has secured deals to license the voice and expertise of the instructors for these AI interactions.

• Early samples of the AI's voice, particularly Chris Voss’, have been described as robotic and lacking naturalness.

• On Call operates separately from the main MasterClass offering, requiring a subscription fee of $10 per month or $84 annually.

 ChatGPT Introduces Video and Screen Sharing Features

Intelligence: OpenAI has enhanced ChatGPT with new video and screen-sharing capabilities, allowing users to interact with the chatbot in more dynamic and versatile ways.

• The advanced voice mode now includes real-time video and screen sharing, available on iOS and Android apps for ChatGPT Teams, Plus, and Pro users, with a rollout to Enterprise and Edu subscribers set for January.

• Users in the EU and certain other countries will not have access to the advanced voice mode.

• ChatGPT can "watch" video content, recognize objects, and provide real-time guidance, such as brewing coffee through a video demonstration.

• OpenAI's features align with Google’s Project Astra and the recently launched Gemini 2.0, which also allows users to engage with AI through video interactions about visible objects.

• Users can share their screen with ChatGPT, enabling the AI to assist with tasks within other apps, creating a more integrated experience.

• The screen-sharing features are similar to those recently released by Microsoft in its Copilot Vision tool.
