DeepSeek Lab's New AI Model Challenges OpenAI's o1
Intelligence: Chinese AI research company DeepSeek has introduced a 'reasoning' AI model, DeepSeek-R1, which it claims can compete with OpenAI's o1 in terms of performance.
DeepSeek-R1, like o1, is designed to spend more time considering questions or queries, thereby avoiding common pitfalls.
DeepSeek asserts that DeepSeek-R1 performs on par with OpenAI’s o1 model on two popular AI benchmarks, AIME and MATH.
Some users have pointed out that DeepSeek-R1 struggles with logic tasks like tic-tac-toe, and it can be easily manipulated to bypass safeguards.
The model appears to block politically sensitive queries, possibly due to pressure from the Chinese government.

Microsoft announced at Ignite that 100,000 organizations are deploying or editing AI agents, signaling the arrival of the 'AI agent era'.
According to Sam Witteveen, CEO of Red Dragon AI, the value in enterprise AI is shifting from Large Language Models (LLMs) to the enterprise governance layers, where Microsoft has a strategic advantage.
Microsoft's vision of a multi-agent 'mesh' could revolutionize enterprise AI architecture by having millions of agents collaborate.
Startups have expressed concern that Microsoft's extensive enterprise AI offerings are "steamrolling" entire verticals.
