Helix, the Groundbreaking VLA Model by Figure Robotics
Intelligence: Figure Robotics introduces Helix, an innovative Vision-Language-Action model designed to enhance robot control, enabling them to execute complex tasks autonomously by understanding natural language commands.
Helix is the first VLA model capable of managing intricate movements of a humanoid robot's entire upper body, including wrists, torso, head, and fingers.
The model can command two robots to work together seamlessly on manipulation tasks using unseen objects, marking a milestone in robotic teamwork.
Equipped with Helix, robots can pick up a vast array of household items based on simple instructions, demonstrating broad generalization without prior examples.
Helix utilizes a single set of neural network weights to perform various tasks, streamlining operations and reducing the need for specific programming for each action.
Designed to function on low-power embedded GPUs, Helix is ready for fast deployment in real-world applications.

Crunchbase Navigates Its Future Using AI to Forecast Startup Trends
Intelligence: Crunchbase is leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance its predictive capabilities regarding startup funding, acquisitions, and public offerings, while simultaneously facing existential challenges posed by rapidly evolving AI technologies.

Crunchbase has introduced an AI-based prediction engine designed to analyze its extensive database, which is built from 17 years of startup data, to forecast startup funding and market movements.
The surge of generative AI tools like ChatGPT has prompted Crunchbase to rethink its role in a landscape where databases can be accessed through conversational AI, pushing the company to pivot and utilize its proprietary insights.
Crunchbase's predictive strength comes from analyzing behind-the-scenes data—like edits made to company profiles and increased investor interest—unavailable to public AI platforms, which McConnell refers to as the company’s "crown jewels."
Crunchbase claims a fundraising prediction accuracy of up to 95%, citing successful forecasts for startups like Anthropic and Coda based on its proprietary signals.
The company's pivot involved laying off a third of its workforce, redirecting resources towards development in data science and engineering amid the changing market dynamics.

Nvidia Launches AI-Powered Platform for Learning American Sign Language
Intelligence: Nvidia has unveiled "Signs," an innovative AI-based platform designed to assist American Sign Language (ASL) learners, featuring a 3-D avatar for sign demonstrations and real-time feedback.

The Signs platform allows users to practice ASL in front of their cameras while receiving immediate feedback from an AI assistant, enhancing the learning experience.
Initially offering 100 signs, Nvidia plans to expand the platform's vocabulary to include 1,000 distinct signs, promoting broader communication skills in ASL.
Signs is part of Nvidia's larger effort to utilize AI in developing assistive technologies that support individuals with disabilities, aligning with broader industry initiatives by companies like Meta, Google, and Apple.
As Nvidia shifts its focus from primarily hardware manufacturing to providing accessible AI solutions, the company aims to strengthen its presence in the AI ecosystem, which is crucial for its chip sales—especially given a recent surge in AI demand.
Signs is free and allows ASL users to contribute additional signs that enhance the platform's vocabulary. This collaborative approach may also lead to new AI applications, such as improved sign recognition in virtual meetings.
Nvidia is exploring ways to incorporate non-manual signals vital to ASL, such as facial expressions and regional dialects, to enrich the learning experience further.
