LLMs that are cheap and biased
📕 AI Task Delegation playbook + 🏛️ DeepSeek will struggle to talk about China
Hi everyone,
DeepSeek is a new LLM. What makes it different / exciting?
It was trained just using H800 GPUs, in 2 months, for $5.5M
It holds up very well against models from OpenAI/Gemini
It has political bias (it won’t say bad things about China, apparently)
Ok, so what does this mean? Companies / countries / groups will be making their own LLMs (it’s cheap, gives great results, and you can add any bias you want!).
Also, HubSpot has a great playbook on knowing when to use AI. 📕
Let’s get right into it.

DeepSeek Unveils DeepSeek V3, Challenging Industry Giants in AI Development
Intelligence: Chinese AI firm DeepSeek has launched its new model, DeepSeek V3, which claims to redefine developer engagement with AI and offers competitive performance compared to leading models from OpenAI and Meta.
DeepSeek V3 excels in coding competitions, surpassing models like Meta’s Llama 3.1 and OpenAI’s GPT-4o, and demonstrated strong results on the Aider Polyglot test, indicating superior coding integration capabilities.
Developed using Nvidia H800 GPUs, it completed training in two months for $5.5 million, much lower than GPT-4’s training costs.
Can automate tasks like email drafting and data summarization. and supports creative content generation and offers accurate language translation.
Politically sensitive; avoids responses on certain topics due to Chinese regulatory requirements. Concerns about bias in outputs, particularly regarding international users.

Microsoft and OpenAI's Financial Definition of AGI
Intelligence: Microsoft and OpenAI have established a unique financial benchmark for defining artificial general intelligence (AGI), positioning OpenAI several years away from achieving this goal based on profitability criteria.
OpenAI has defined AGI as the ability to generate at least $100 billion in profit, but this contrasts with broader technical and philosophical definitions of AGI commonly recognized in the industry.
OpenAI is expected to incur billions in losses this year and projects no profitability until 2029, of which these financial challenges raise questions about the feasibility of achieving the defined AGI target in the near term.
Under the terms of their agreement, Microsoft will lose access to OpenAI's technology once AGI is officially achieved, and this agreement could secure Microsoft’s access to OpenAI's models for potentially a decade, delaying competitive pressures until at least 2034.
Recent discussions have focused on OpenAI's O3 model, with some wondering whether it constitutes a significant breakthrough toward AGI. With the high computational costs associated with O3, OpenAI's ability to achieve its profit-driven AGI definition may be hampered.
