🤖 New AI models - cheaper, faster, better

This is an exciting one.

Two big AI models: Meta’s new Llama model which is open source, and OpenAI’s GPT40 mini model, which is 60% cheaper.

I’m in the process of creating a course on how to use the open source Llama model to build AMAZING things.

As a fun side note, we have a tutorial on how to create the viral “older and younger version of celebrities hanging out” trend that’s sweeping social media.

Create AI “hugging” videos

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s an example. The idea is to create videos of celebrities hanging out with their younger selves.

Agreed that there’s no “useful” value here, but it’s a fun thing you can do with AI (and please don’t do it for nefarious purposes!, only for entertainment).

How to do it:

1. Go to Midjourney and write in the following prompt to create the starting image (you can also use ChatGPT but it won’t be as realistic). an older harrison ford side by side near a younger harrison ford, smiling

2. Create the ending image in Midjourney, use the starting image in the prompt (to maintain continuity), and type in: an older harrison ford hugging a younger harrison ford

3. Head over to Luma, upload the starting and ending image as start and end keyframes, and click Generate.

4. Voila, you have you own cool AI video.

🤿DEEP DIVE

Meta's New Open-Source AI Model Surpasses Rivals, Promises Industry Transformation

Intelligence: Meta has released Llama 3.1, the largest-ever open-source AI model, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg hopes will outperform competitors and drive more widespread use of open-source AI.

• Meta's Llama 3.1 AI model outperforms GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet from OpenAI and Anthropic, respectively, on several benchmarks.

• The AI model, which has 405 billion parameters, was trained using over 16,000 of Nvidia’s high-cost H100 GPUs.

• Despite the substantial investment in developing Llama 3.1, Meta will continue to offer it under a license requiring approval from large-scale user companies.

• Zuckerberg anticipates that open-source AI models will soon overtake proprietary models, similar to the rise of the open-source operating system Linux.

Significance: This move towards open-source AI could make it easier and cheaper for everyone to develop new technologies, sparking innovation and opening up new opportunities.

OpenAI's Release of Cost-Efficient AI Model, GPT-4o mini

Intelligence: OpenAI has announced the launch of GPT-4o mini, their most cost-effective small model, designed to expand AI applications by making intelligence more affordable.

• GPT-4o mini is priced at 15 cents per million input tokens and 60 cents per million output tokens, over 60% cheaper than its predecessor, GPT-3.5 Turbo.

• The model can be used for tasks that require low cost and latency, such as customer support chatbots. The model outperforms other small models in academic benchmarks across both textual intelligence and multimodal reasoning.

• GPT-4o mini supports text and vision in the API, with future support for text, image, video, and audio inputs and outputs, and it has improved performance in function calling and long-context performance compared to GPT-3.5 Turbo.

Significance:  The release of GPT-4o mini makes AI more affordable and accessible. It expands AI applications and sets a new standard for cost-efficient models.
