OpenAI's Controversial Deal with Reddit: A Conflict of Interest?

Intelligence: OpenAI has signed a notable agreement with Reddit, despite CEO Sam Altman's significant stake in the social media platform, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest.

• OpenAI has partnered with Reddit to use its data for training AI models, including the popular conversational AI. The deal will also involve OpenAI becoming a Reddit advertising partner.

• Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, owns an 8.7% stake in Reddit and was a former member of the board, raising questions about potential conflicts. OpenAI insists the deal was led by its Chief Operating Officer and approved by its independent board of directors, with Altman recusing himself from the decision.

• Reddit has been leveraging data licensing agreements as part of its growth strategy, with contracts worth over $200 million, including with Google.
