Multi Joins OpenAI and Sunsets its Desktop Application
Intelligence: The innovative desktop application, Multi, has announced that it is joining the artificial intelligence research group, OpenAI, and will be discontinuing its app.
Multi, known for exploring the potential of multiplayer desktop computers and an operating system that places people on the same level as apps, is joining OpenAI.
The decision arose from the team's interest in exploring how humans can work with, rather than on or using, computers and AI.
With the move to OpenAI, Multi will be sunsetting its application.
New team signups have been closed, and active teams can use the app until July 24, 2024. After that date, all user data will be deleted.
Significance: This move signals a shift in focus from the development of standalone applications to the integration of AI in everyday computing.

Major Music Labels Sue AI Start-ups Suno and Udio for Copyright Infringement
Intelligence: Major music labels Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group are suing AI start-ups Suno and Udio for copyright infringement, alleging that the firms used their music to train AI models without permission.
The music labels, supported by the Recording Industry Association of America, claim that Suno and Udio have committed "willful copyright infringement at an almost unimaginable scale".
Both start-ups utilize AI to generate songs from users' text prompts. Suno recently announced a $125 million funding round, while Udio boasts notable musicians among its investors.
The labels argue that the start-ups' use of their music libraries does not fall under "fair use" as it is machine-generated imitation, not human creativity or expression.
The labels are seeking admissions from both companies, injunctions to stop the alleged training, and damages of up to $150,000 per song.
Significance: This lawsuit has potential implications for the AI and music industries. It may set a legal precedent for AI's use of copyrighted content, highlighting the tension between innovation and copyright laws.
