📚 From screenshots to knowledge base

+ 💻 Build and sell AI startups + ⚖️ More copyright lawsuits

ENTERPRISE DNA PRESENTS

Hello folks,

We had a 3 week hiatus for a personal emergency, but are now back bigger and stronger than ever!

Unfortunately, I haven’t built a good enough AI to replace this newsletter yet 🙃 and so it still takes several hours to write these!

I’ve got a great one for you today though - if you're the type of person that takes screenshots to remember things, this is gold 🥇

  • Big Question: Should OpenAI compensate writers?

Let’s get right into it…

📕 LEARN SOMETHING
Create a chat knowledge base from screenshots

If you’re like me, when I come across a cool visual chart or infographic, I tend to screenshot it and save it to a local folder.

This folder has now grown to several thousand screenshots, and it’s basically become useless at this point because searching it us so difficult.

Here’s how I fixed that with this awesome thing I found: Trickle.

Step 1: create an account

Step 2: create a new memory

Step 3: upload your desired screenshots

Step 4: the AI generates a digest for the screenshot

Step 5: after you’ve uploaded your screenshot, Trickle acts like ChatGPT but with your screenshots as the underlying knowledge base!

This enables you to turn your random screenshots into something actually usable.

Does your team have a folder of “best-practice screenshots” - you can feed that in too!

Creating a knowledge base and linking to ChatGPT isn’t too earth-shattering; however, this does it with screenshots and pictures, which is much harder!

Finally, you can also integrate Notion into the knowledge base.

🙃 SOMETHING FUN
More copyright lawsuits against OpenAI

Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon and other renowned writers have filed a class-action lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging copyright infringement 📚

This isn’t new, but the lawsuits keep piling up - this time claiming OpenAI sourced material from various large illegal internet-based book collections.

The writers argue that when ChatGPT generates summaries or analyses, it potentially reveals that the AI was trained on their copyrighted works.

This brings up fascinating questions about whether summarization or analysis by AI constitutes a "transformative use" that is permitted under copyright law.

Meanwhile, the US Copyright Office is studying the implications of AI systems on copyright law.

 BIG QUESTION

Should OpenAI be legally required to compensate creators and writers that produced the data on which ChatGPT is trained?
